The John Kauger Memorial Park was made possible under the leadership of Mayor Loy Luekenga when Colony received an ICETEA grant for construction of brick sidewalks and vintage lighting. After the death of John Kauger, the East Side Neighbors club spearheaded by Nadine Pulis Melton, raised funds to honor his memory. Richard Smith built a gazebo in the John Kauger Memorial Park. The park was completed based on the design donated by award winning landscape architect, Bill Renner (pictured) whose great grandparents participated in the land run of 1889.
